The idea of R20 forum by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) is one of the ideas to unite perceptions between countries and religions. It is based on the phenomenon of the global economy which has begun to be disrupted by conflicts and wars in several countries. Various wars by the superpowers have had implications for disrupting economic stability. Thus, the role of religion in terms of world peace also contributes to the success of global economic stability. In further analysis, this article refers to Ibn Khaldun, Al-Ghazali, Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and John Stuart Mill’s political economy to answer how is the relationship between religion and world peace in economic development? And what role does the R20 forum play in integrating political economy and religion for global economic development? The findings in this article indicate that the sources of political economy in R20 are a means of integrating its patterns in line with the values and essence of religious teachings.
Muhamad Aqim Adlan ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.uinsatu.ac.id/index.php/epis/article/view/7680 Mon, 27 Nov 2023 00:00:00 +0700 FROM STREET SINGER TO POPULAR MUSLIM PREACHER FIGURES https://ejournal.uinsatu.ac.id/index.php/epis/article/view/8333
This article seeks to examine the representation of Chinese Indonesians in New Media after the demise of Suharto’s New Order regimes. It takes root in the recent phenomenon in Indonesia as the “reappearance” of Chinese faces in popular Indonesian media by discussing the celebrities or public figures, and ordinary ‘man-on-the street’ of Chinese Indonesians, who are catapulted in the mainstream mass media and portrayed in popular television formats in particular such as reality-shows, talk-shows, news and variety shows. Based on participatory observation and in-depth-interview to the producers of several popular TV shows casting Chinese figures, this article argues that the political changes from authoritarian Suharto’s regimes which marginalized Chinese ethnicity to democracy has re-identified the representation of Chineseness in public sphere which contributes to more reception of Chinese identity at large in the country. This representation intermingles to produce the debates on religiosity and nationalism.
Julia Julia ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.uinsatu.ac.id/index.php/epis/article/view/8333 Wed, 27 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0700 FIQH SUNDA https://ejournal.uinsatu.ac.id/index.php/epis/article/view/8534
The scholars have different theories concerning Islam coming to Nusantara. They believed that the first community to accept Islam was the residents of the coastal areas of Sumatera, Java, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, and Papua. Afterward, Islam was disseminated to rural areas throughout the Nusantara including fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), one of the fundamental teachings of Islam. This reception was surely through a long process and resistance from the indigenous residents of the Nusantara who already had local religions and beliefs practiced continuously by hereditary generations. Badui in Banten and Kampung Naga, West Java were indigenous residents of the island. This article seeks to discuss the negotiating process of fiqh among Badui and Kampung Naga’s communities from historical and anthropological viewpoints. This article argues that the negotiating of fiqh by the community of Badui is limited to particular cases such as marriage and inheritance. While the community of Kampung Naga receives the majority of fiqh. The negotiating of fiqh in both communities was influenced strongly by their interaction with outside communities and also state power.
Rendra Fahrurrozie, Misno Misno ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.uinsatu.ac.id/index.php/epis/article/view/8534 Tue, 20 Feb 2024 00:00:00 +0700 SHEIKH IBRAHIM MUSA PARABEK’S THOUGHTS ON TASHYID AND TAWASSUL IN HIDĀYAH AL-ṢIBYĀN https://ejournal.uinsatu.ac.id/index.php/epis/article/view/8589
The global reform of Islamic thought had impact of dividing the Minangkabau ulamas (Muslim scholars) into both “kaum tuo” as a traditionalist and “kaum mudo” as a revisionist. Even today, the history of Minangkabau ulamas cannot be separated from this category. Ibrahim Musa is one of the ulamas who had unique position because of his affiliation to some groups. He also was recognized as “kaum mudo” due to his involvement in their movement. At the same time, other historical records showed his engagement with “kaum tuo.” His ambiguities in siding among Minangkabau ulamas are worth-investigating. This article seeks to analyze Ibrahim Musa’s thoughts based on his book, Hidāyah al-Ṣibyān. It argues that Ibrahim Musa did not clearly state his stance, except providing two views. Further, he was trying to explain their interpretations which proved that in the history of Islam in Minangkabau there are ulamas who cannot simply categorized as traditionalists or revisionists due to the complexity of their thoughts of Islam. In this respect, the study of non-mainstream ulama figures like Ibrahim Musa is scholarly pivotal to construct the historiography of Minangkabau ulama as a whole.
Nadyya Rahma Azhari ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.uinsatu.ac.id/index.php/epis/article/view/8589 Thu, 29 Feb 2024 15:58:52 +0700
