Abstract

Altruistic leadership is a leadership style that places others at the center of attention. Within the context of Islamic Boarding Schools (IBS), this leadership style can inspire students and community peoples to actively contribute to the success of the BLKKP program. This article aims to explore the altruistic behavior of Kiai and reveal the impact on sustaining the BLKKP. This research is field research using a qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation at six BLKKP in four regions: Kediri, Blitar, Jombang, and Trenggalek. This paper finds three altruistic behaviors from Kiai that contribute to the progress of BLKKP, namely; prioritizing the interests of the community and students for their own benefit, donating their assets for the advancement of the BLKKP, and providing mentoring and empowerment in the form of business consultations and opening up marketing access. This altruistic behavior is able to maintain the existence of the BLKKP in two ways: create a productive and prosocial work atmosphere and increase the motivation of students and the community to contribute to the success of the BLKKP program. These findings highlight the importance of adopting an altruistic leadership style for IBS leaders to ensure the sustainability of the BLKKP management program specifically, and to drive IBS generally.
