PUBLICATION ETHICS

MARDIBASA: Journal of Indonesian Language and Literature Education is published in accordance with the ethics of scholarly writing and publication. Any form of conduct that violates these ethical standards is unacceptable, and MARDIBASA: Journal of Indonesian Language and Literature Education will not tolerate plagiarism in any form or under any circumstances. To ensure the highest quality of publications, MARDIBASA: Journal of Indonesian Language and Literature Education adheres to COPE: Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers. Specifically, the responsibilities of contributors to MARDIBASA: Journal of Indonesian Language and Literature Education are as follows.

Authors’ Responsibilities

  1. Authors must present an accurate account of their original research and provide an objective discussion of its significance. Manuscripts must comply with the journal’s Author Guidelines.

  2. Authors are responsible for ensuring that only original and previously unpublished work is submitted.

  3. Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. Authors are also expected not to publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research findings or study in more than one journal.

  4. Authors must not submit an article that is currently under review or being considered for publication by another journal simultaneously.

  5. Authors must properly and honestly acknowledge all sources of data used in the research and cite publications that have significantly influenced the research.

  6. Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. Anyone who has made a significant contribution to the research should be listed as a co-author. Authors must also ensure that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission and inclusion as co-authors.

  7. Authors must provide the raw data from their manuscript for editorial review when requested and must retain such data for an appropriate period.

  8. If authors discover any errors or inaccuracies in their submitted manuscript at any time, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the manuscript, as appropriate.

  9. Authors may only submit or publish their manuscript with another publisher after receiving an official rejection from the first journal to which the manuscript was submitted or after their formal withdrawal request has been accepted by the publisher.

  10. Authors are expected to contribute to and take responsibility for addressing any deficiencies or shortcomings in their manuscript.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

  1. Information concerning manuscripts submitted by authors must be kept confidential and treated as privileged information.

  2. Reviewers may decline to review a submission if they have a conflict of interest or if they do not possess sufficient expertise or scientific knowledge to conduct an appropriate review.

  3. Reviewers must ensure that authors have properly acknowledged all sources of data used in the research. Any ethical issues, suspected plagiarism, substantial similarity, or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and other manuscripts or previously published works known to the reviewer must be promptly reported to the editor.

  4. Reviews of submitted manuscripts must be conducted objectively and fairly. Reviewers must express their views clearly and professionally and support their evaluations with adequate arguments and evidence.

  5. Reviewers must indicate their relevant areas of expertise before agreeing to review a manuscript.

  6. If a reviewer believes that they cannot complete the review within the specified time, they must promptly inform the editor so that the manuscript can be assigned to another reviewer.

  7. Reviewers must assess the originality of submitted manuscripts and remain alert to possible plagiarism and duplicate publication.

  8. Reviewers must not discuss the content of a submitted manuscript with anyone without prior authorization from the editor.

  9. Reviewers must comply with the deadlines established for the review process. Requests for an extension to complete a review are subject to the editor’s discretion.

Editors’ Responsibilities

  1. Editors make decisions based on the reports and recommendations of the editorial board and reviewers. Editors may accept, reject, or request revisions to a manuscript.

  2. Editors must ensure that every submitted manuscript is initially evaluated for originality using appropriate software or other suitable methods. Following the desk review, manuscripts that meet the journal’s requirements should be forwarded for blind peer review by the editorial review board or designated reviewers, who will provide recommendations to accept, reject, or request revisions.

  3. Editors must ensure that every manuscript submitted to MARDIBASA: Jurnal Pembelajaran Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia is evaluated solely on the basis of its intellectual and scholarly content, without regard to the authors’ gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, or other personal characteristics.

  4. Editors must ensure that information concerning submitted manuscripts is kept confidential.

  5. Editors must not use unpublished material disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the author’s explicit written permission.

Editorial Board Members’ Responsibilities

  1. Editorial Board Members should actively contribute to the development and improvement of the journal.

  2. Editorial Board Members should act as ambassadors for the journal.

  3. Editorial Board Members should continuously support and promote the journal.

  4. Editorial Board Members should conduct reviews of manuscripts or other scholarly works assigned to them in a timely and professional manner.

Responsibilities of the Editorial Team and Managing Editor

  1. The Editorial Team and Managing Editor must evaluate manuscripts fairly and solely on the basis of their intellectual and scholarly merit.

  2. They must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not disclose any information concerning a manuscript to anyone other than those directly involved in the publication process.

  3. They are responsible for determining the publication schedule and deciding which articles will be published, in accordance with the journal’s editorial policies and procedures.

  4. They should actively seek advice and feedback from Editorial Board Members, reviewers, and authors on ways to improve the journal’s quality, reputation, and visibility.

  5. They must provide clear instructions to prospective contributors regarding the submission process and the standards and requirements expected of authors.

  6. They must ensure that appropriate and qualified reviewers are selected for the peer-review process.

Publisher’s Responsibilities

Handling Unethical Publishing Practices

In cases of suspected or proven scientific misconduct, fraudulent publication, or plagiarism, the publisher, in close collaboration with the editor, will take all appropriate measures to clarify the situation and amend the published article when necessary. Such measures may include the prompt publication of a correction or clarification and, in the most serious cases, the retraction of the affected work.

The publisher, together with the editor, must take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of manuscripts involving research misconduct. Under no circumstances should the publisher encourage unethical behavior or knowingly allow such misconduct to occur.

Access to Journal Content

The publisher is committed to ensuring the permanent availability of published manuscripts. The publisher will also ensure that digital archives are properly maintained so that published articles remain accessible and available to readers over the long term.
