Generative AI Poilcy

An-Nisbah: Jurnal Ekonomi Syariah recognizes the potential benefits of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in scholarly communication and research while acknowledging risks related to research integrity, authorship, confidentiality, transparency, intellectual property, and accountability. This policy is informed by the principles of the STM Association and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Acceptable Use and Author Responsibility

Authors may use GenAI for limited technical assistance, including grammar correction, language polishing, formatting, translation support, and reference organization. Such limited use does not require detailed disclosure when it does not substantially affect the manuscript's intellectual content, analysis, interpretation, or scholarly contribution.

Substantive AI use must be disclosed. This includes using AI to generate or substantially revise text, synthesize literature, assist quantitative or qualitative analysis, develop research instruments, write or modify analytical code, generate figures, classify data, or contribute to interpretation and conceptual development.

AI tools must not be listed as authors. Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, citations, analysis, ethical compliance, and integrity of all submitted content.

GenAI must not be used to fabricate or manipulate data, financial records, transactions, participants, interviews, statistical results, quotations, references, Sharia sources, research findings, or other scholarly evidence.

AI Use in Islamic Economics and Finance Research

Authors must exercise particular care when AI tools are used in research involving Islamic banking, financial institutions, investment, Islamic fintech, digital transactions, zakat, waqf, social finance, or other economic and financial data.

Confidential or identifiable data must not be uploaded to public GenAI platforms. This includes customer information, transaction records, account information, institutional documents, proprietary datasets, interview transcripts, and other sensitive financial or organizational information.

When AI assists with statistical modelling, financial analysis, coding, classification, forecasting, or interpretation, authors must independently verify the methods, calculations, assumptions, and results.

AI-generated statements concerning Sharia principles, Qur'anic verses, Hadith, fatwas, Islamic legal concepts, or regulatory provisions must be verified against authoritative original sources. AI must not replace scholarly judgment in determining Sharia compliance or interpreting Islamic economic principles.

Research examining AI, financial technology, algorithmic finance, or related digital innovation is welcome when it falls within the journal's scope and meets appropriate methodological and ethical standards.

Disclosure of AI Use

Substantive AI use should be disclosed in the manuscript, preferably before the References section.

The authors used [AI tool and provider] for [specific purpose]. All AI-assisted content was reviewed, verified, and revised by the authors, who remain fully responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the manuscript.

If no substantive AI was used:

The authors did not use generative AI tools for substantive content generation, data analysis, interpretation, or scholarly argumentation.

Failure to disclose significant AI use may be treated as a publication-ethics concern.

Editorial and Peer Review Use

Editors and reviewers must maintain manuscript confidentiality. Unpublished manuscripts, review reports, author responses, datasets, financial information, and supplementary materials must not be uploaded to public GenAI platforms.

GenAI must not replace editors or peer reviewers in manuscript evaluation or publication decisions. Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts to public AI platforms to generate review reports.

All editorial decisions remain the responsibility of human editors.

Misuse and Editorial Action

Inappropriate AI use includes fabricated references, financial data or statistical results; false quotations; manipulated findings; invented Sharia sources; misleading AI-generated figures; plagiarism concealed through AI-assisted paraphrasing; undisclosed substantive AI use; and unauthorized disclosure of confidential research or financial data.

Where misuse is suspected, An-Nisbah: Jurnal Ekonomi Syariah may request clarification, original data, analytical procedures, research instruments, AI-use disclosure, or other supporting evidence.

Depending on the severity, the journal may require revision, reject the manuscript, publish a correction, issue an expression of concern, or retract the article in accordance with its Publication Ethics and Research Integrity Policy.

Policy Review

An-Nisbah: Jurnal Ekonomi Syariah will periodically review this policy in response to developments in generative AI, financial technologies, research ethics, data protection, and scholarly publishing standards.

Through this policy, the journal affirms its commitment to responsible innovation, transparency, human accountability, Sharia-based scholarly integrity, data protection, and rigorous research in Islamic economics and finance.
