MARDIBASA: Jurnal Pembelajaran Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia is committed to maintaining academic integrity, originality, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original works and must not contain plagiarism, duplicate publication, self-plagiarism, or other forms of academic misconduct.
All manuscripts submitted to MARDIBASA: Jurnal Pembelajaran Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia are subject to a plagiarism and similarity check using Turnitin or other appropriate similarity-detection software.
The similarity check is conducted during the initial editorial screening process before the manuscript is sent for peer review.
The maximum allowable similarity score is 20%. However, the similarity percentage is not used as the sole basis for determining plagiarism. The editorial team will examine the sources and context of the identified similarities before making an editorial decision.
A similarity score of 20% or below does not automatically mean that a manuscript is free from plagiarism. Likewise, a similarity score above 20% does not automatically constitute plagiarism.
The editorial team will assess:
The sources contributing to the similarity score;
The nature and extent of the matched text;
Whether the matched material has been properly cited;
Whether the similarity occurs in quotations, references, standard terminology, or methodological descriptions;
Whether substantial portions of another work have been reproduced without appropriate attribution; and
Whether the manuscript involves duplicate publication or inappropriate text recycling.
The final determination regarding plagiarism is made by the editor based on the similarity report and scholarly judgment.
MARDIBASA considers the following practices to constitute plagiarism or potential academic misconduct:
Direct plagiarism, namely copying words, sentences, paragraphs, ideas, or other material from another source without appropriate acknowledgment.
Mosaic or patchwork plagiarism, namely combining or rearranging words or passages from one or more sources without proper attribution.
Plagiarism of ideas, namely presenting another person's ideas, arguments, theories, concepts, or findings as one's own without appropriate citation.
Self-plagiarism or inappropriate text recycling, namely reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without appropriate acknowledgment or justification.
Duplicate or redundant publication, namely submitting or publishing substantially the same research or manuscript in more than one journal without appropriate disclosure.
Unattributed translation, namely translating another person's work into another language and presenting it as an original work without acknowledging the original source.
Plagiarism of data, tables, figures, or other materials, namely using another person's data, tables, figures, images, or other scholarly materials without appropriate permission or attribution where required.
Authors are fully responsible for ensuring the originality and academic integrity of their manuscripts.
Authors must:
Submit only original work;
Properly acknowledge all sources used in the manuscript;
Provide appropriate citations for quotations, paraphrased ideas, data, figures, tables, and other materials obtained from other sources;
Obtain permission when required to reproduce copyrighted material;
Avoid submitting substantially identical manuscripts to more than one journal simultaneously;
Disclose any previous publication or closely related manuscript that may overlap substantially with the submitted work; and
Ensure that the submitted manuscript complies with the journal's publication ethics policy.
Authors remain responsible for plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct even when the misconduct is identified after publication.
If plagiarism or substantial inappropriate similarity is identified during the initial screening, the editor may take one or more of the following actions:
Request an explanation from the authors;
Return the manuscript to the authors for correction;
Request appropriate citation or rewriting;
Reject the manuscript before peer review; or
Initiate a further investigation when serious academic misconduct is suspected.
The editorial decision will depend on the severity, extent, and nature of the suspected misconduct.
If a reviewer identifies suspected plagiarism or substantial overlap with another publication, the reviewer should promptly inform the editor and provide relevant evidence where possible.
The reviewer should not directly contact or accuse the author of plagiarism. The matter will be handled confidentially by the editor.
The editor may conduct an additional similarity check or investigation before making a decision.
If plagiarism is discovered after a manuscript has been accepted but before publication, the journal reserves the right to withdraw the acceptance and reject the manuscript.
Depending on the seriousness of the case, the editor may request an explanation from the authors and take further action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy.
If plagiarism is discovered after an article has been published, the journal will investigate the case carefully.
If the investigation confirms serious plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct, the journal may:
Publish a correction or clarification where appropriate;
Publish a formal notice concerning the article;
Retract the published article in serious cases;
Notify the authors' affiliated institution when appropriate; and/or
Take other appropriate actions in accordance with applicable publication-ethics standards.
A retracted article will remain part of the journal's publication record but will be clearly identified as retracted.
Authors must not manipulate, alter, or otherwise attempt to circumvent the journal's plagiarism screening process.
The editorial team may conduct additional checks if there is a reasonable concern that a manuscript has been deliberately modified to avoid similarity detection.
All plagiarism investigations will be handled confidentially.
Information concerning a suspected case of plagiarism will only be disclosed to individuals directly involved in the investigation and editorial decision-making process, unless disclosure is required by applicable institutional or legal requirements.
MARDIBASA is committed to handling allegations of plagiarism fairly and objectively.
Authors will be given an opportunity to provide an explanation when clarification is necessary. Editorial decisions will be based on the available evidence, the nature and extent of the suspected misconduct, and applicable publication-ethics principles.
By submitting a manuscript to MARDIBASA: Jurnal Pembelajaran Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia, authors confirm that the submitted work is original, has been appropriately cited, and does not contain plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct.
MARDIBASA: Jurnal Pembelajaran Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia reserves the right to reject, withdraw, or retract manuscripts and published articles that are found to violate the journal's plagiarism policy or principles of academic integrity.
