The journal provides accessible procedures for reporting concerns, reviewing editorial decisions, investigating suspected misconduct, and resolving disputes in accordance with the principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Appeals Against Editorial Decisions
Authors may appeal an editorial decision when substantial factual, procedural, or ethical errors are believed to have affected the evaluation of their manuscript. Valid grounds for appeal include significant misunderstandings of research findings, procedural irregularities, undisclosed conflicts of interest, overlooked evidence, or departures from established peer-review procedures.
Appeals based solely on disagreement with the academic judgment of editors or reviewers will not normally be considered.
Submission and Review of Appeals
Appeals must be submitted through the journal's official editorial communication channels within 30 calendar days of the editorial decision. Submissions must include the manuscript title, submission identification number, contested decision, grounds for appeal, and relevant supporting evidence.
The editorial office acknowledges receipt within seven working days. Appeals are evaluated by an editor who was not directly involved in the original decision whenever possible. Independent academic or methodological experts may be consulted when necessary.
The journal aims to communicate the outcome within 30 working days, although complex cases may require additional time. Only one formal appeal will normally be considered for each editorial decision, and the outcome of the appeal is generally final.
Complaints and Reporting Procedures
Authors, reviewers, readers, editors, research participants, institutions, community representatives, and other concerned parties may submit complaints regarding editorial conduct, peer-review procedures, publication delays, confidentiality breaches, conflicts of interest, discrimination, inappropriate communication, authorship disputes, or other matters affecting publication integrity.
Complaints must identify the relevant manuscript, published article, editorial process, or incident and provide sufficient information and supporting evidence for an impartial assessment.
Complaints involving sensitive socio-religious information, community-based research, participant consent, institutional permission, or potential harm to individuals and communities receive particular attention to confidentiality, research ethics, and participant protection.
Allegations of Research Misconduct
The journal investigates credible allegations involving suspected violations of research integrity, including plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, inappropriate authorship, peer-review manipulation, citation manipulation, unethical research practices, undisclosed conflicts of interest, and misuse of generative artificial intelligence.
Allegations may arise before or after publication and must be supported by specific, relevant, and verifiable information. Anonymous reports may be considered when sufficient credible evidence is provided.
The submission of an allegation does not constitute a determination of misconduct. All concerns are assessed objectively, confidentially, and without presumption of wrongdoing.
Preliminary Assessment and Investigation
The Editor-in-Chief or an independent designated editor conducts a preliminary assessment to determine the credibility, relevance, and seriousness of reported allegations.
When further examination is necessary, the journal may request original research data, anonymized datasets, research instruments, statistical outputs, interview records, field notes, supplementary materials, ethical approvals, informed-consent documentation, editorial correspondence, or other relevant evidence.
Individuals involved are provided an appropriate opportunity to respond and submit supporting documentation. For complex or serious allegations, the journal may consult independent experts, institutional research-integrity offices, ethics committees, funding agencies, or other competent authorities.
The journal evaluates evidence relevant to the integrity of its editorial and publication record. Formal institutional determinations concerning research misconduct remain the responsibility of the competent institutions or authorities.
Confidentiality, Impartiality, and Protection
All appeals, complaints, and allegations are handled fairly, confidentially, and proportionately. Information is disclosed only to individuals directly involved in assessing or resolving the matter.
Editors or other individuals with actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest must withdraw from the relevant assessment or investigation. Complaints involving the Editor-in-Chief are referred to an independent editorial board member, publisher representative, or qualified external party.
The journal protects individuals who raise concerns in good faith against editorial retaliation. Knowingly false, malicious, abusive, or deliberately misleading complaints may be dismissed following appropriate assessment.
Sensitive research information, particularly concerning religious communities, vulnerable participants, family circumstances, community conflicts, and identifiable individuals, must be protected throughout the process.
Editorial Resolution and Corrective Actions
Editorial responses are determined by the available evidence, the seriousness of the concern, and applicable publication ethics standards.
Possible outcomes include dismissal of unsubstantiated allegations, clarification requests, reconsideration of editorial decisions, additional peer review, manuscript revision or rejection, referral to relevant institutions, correction of publication records, or other proportionate measures.
When concerns involve published articles, appropriate post-publication actions, including corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions, are implemented in accordance with the journal's established publication ethics and retraction policies.
Decisions and supporting records are documented confidentially, and relevant parties receive written notification of the outcome, subject to privacy and data-protection requirements.
